This past weekend my youngest turned five, we knew we wanted a party that reflected all the things he loves: Taylor Swift, rainbows, crafts, and dancing! The result was a colorful, fun-filled day that everyone enjoyed.

Here’s a recap of the celebration and some tips if you’re planning a similar party!

The Theme: Taylor Swift Meets Rainbow Magic

Combining Taylor Swift's iconic style with a rainbow color palette gave us so much creative freedom. From the decorations to the activities, we infused the party with bright colors and subtle nods to Taylor Swift's music.

It was important to me that the children got to take home something that they had made during the party, and that they were entertained and had an activity to do.

I also don't love the idea of goodie bags that are just filled with candy and toys, so I wanted part of the goodie bag to be the craft they made.

Invitations

I used a template from Canva, and some of our favourite pictures, and sent this via text, or on a card for some of our friends. We invited 7 friends in total, with my 2 kiddos that was 9 children.

Craft Time: Making Flower Vases

Carter loves flowers, and arranging flowers - and although I wanted to use real flowers, we ended up using fake flowers. These were easier for the kids to handle, and a lot cheaper.

Each craft station had a set of paint and paintbrushes (https://amzn.to/3PBStH4), a plastic vase (https://amzn.to/4gSruTy) , and their personalized apron (https://amzn.to/4gSruTy). Carter actually went around and wrote each child's name on a napkin and set up their apron, so that they knew where to stand!

These were fun to make and kept the kids busy for a quite a while - I did this craft at the beginning so they could dry before they went home. When their parents picked them up, I gave them their vase & and let them pick the flowers they wanted to put in it to take them home.

Kids Aprons

My favourite part of this rainbow themed party was the personalized aprons I made for the kids.

The aprons were just purchased on Amazon (https://amzn.to/4gSruTy), and then I used puffy vinyl on my Cricut (https://amzn.to/4gSruTy) to put their names on them!

They turned out really well, and it was a great way to keep the paint (and icing) off their party clothes - so mom and dads weren't shocked when they got picked up!

Dance Party in the Basement

Next up, it was time to channel our inner "Shake It Off" vibes! We transformed our basement into a mini dance floor with disco lights (https://amzn.to/4gSruTy), a playlist of kid-friendly Taylor Swift songs, and a disco ball (https://amzn.to/4gSruTy) to set the mood. The kids played dancing games like freeze dance and the floor is lava. Carter also got a mini speaker/mic set for his birthday (https://amzn.to/4gSruTy) so each child had a turn to give instructions when the music froze on the mic - like "do 5 push ups", "give a friend a high five!", or "grab a pink balloon!" These games and dance party was a huge hit - and it was perfect to keep the kids entertained while I did clean and set up upstairs.

Cookie Decorating Fun

After working up an appetite on the dance floor, we brought the kids back upstairs for cookie decorating. Each child had a confetti sugar cookie, frosting in a rainbow of colors, and sprinkles galore. Watching them create (and sample!) their cookie masterpieces was a highlight of the party. Plus, it doubled as a sweet treat for them to enjoy later. We used a local baker, @Niv.Witherwhisk, and I was absolutely obsessed with the cookies she made. She also made our Rainbow Macarons (Carter and I LOVE Macarons), and they were a huge hit as well!

Decorations and Party Details

To tie everything together, I used rainbow tie-dye plates and napkins we had previously used. We used a door streamer on the way to the party room, and we had fruits, veggies, the rainbow macarons (to die for), and party mix!

Carter and I also created the friendship bracelet birthday sign with our Cricut, using cardstock & black vinyl.

Goodie Bags

Finally, when the kids left the party I wanted them to be able to take home something colourful and fun! Carter and I (mostly I) created a fun personalized colouring book for each child, and made their names in crayons to use with it! We also included colourful smarties, and a candy bracelet. They also got to take home their apron!

One parent said he loved that we sent home tired children with a quiet activity to do at home!

Tips for Throwing a Taylor Swift Rainbow Party

  1. Keep It Hands-On: Crafts like flower vases and cookie decorating are not only fun but also give kids a sense of accomplishment.

  2. Plan Active Games: Dancing games were a hit and helped burn off energy.

  3. Incorporate the Theme: From music to decorations, weave your theme throughout the party for a cohesive feel.

  4. Simplify Setup: Pre-prepping crafts and organizing activity stations made the day run smoothly.

This Taylor Swift rainbow-themed party was a day to remember, and seeing the joy on my five-year-old’s face made all the effort worthwhile.

If you’re planning a celebration for your little Swiftie, I hope this inspires you to create your own magical event!
